How to See a Private ESPN Fantasy League's History
Updated October 13, 2026
ESPN fantasy leagues are private unless the commissioner changes a setting, and a private league only shows its scores and standings to someone signed in as a member. That's good for privacy, but it means outside tools (this site included) can't read the league on their own. There are three ways around it, from easiest to most hands-on.
Option 1: make the league viewable to the public
Only the commissioner can do this, and it takes about 30 seconds on ESPN's website (the app doesn't have the setting):
- Open the league on fantasy.espn.com.
- Click LM Tools, then Basic Settings, then Edit.
- Set Make League Viewable to Public to Yes and click Save.
What it changes: anyone who has the league's ID or address can view the league: team names, scores, standings and rosters. Nobody can join, trade, or change anything. The league doesn't show up in any public directory, so people still need the link to find it.
Why it's the easiest: once it's public, you only need the league's address to load its history, and it keeps itself up to date during the season without anyone signing in again.
Option 2: the one-click bookmark (computer)
If the commissioner would rather keep the league private, any league member can load it with their own login. The simplest way is a browser bookmark:
- On a computer, open the home page, choose My league is private, and drag the Load League History button to your bookmarks bar.
- Go to fantasy.espn.com, sign in, and open your league.
- Click the bookmark. This site opens with your league and login filled in. Tap Load history.
The bookmark reads the two ESPN cookies described below from your browser and hands them to this site in the page address (after the #, which browsers never send to a web server). The site clears them from the address as soon as it opens.
Option 3: copy two cookies by hand
ESPN keeps your sign-in in two cookies, espn_s2 and SWID. With both, a tool can read your leagues the same way your browser does. To copy them in Chrome or Edge on a computer:
- Go to fantasy.espn.com and make sure you're signed in.
- Press F12 (Mac: Cmd + Option + I) to open developer tools.
- Click Application at the top (behind the » arrows if you don't see it).
- In the left sidebar under Storage, open Cookies and click https://fantasy.espn.com.
- Type espn_s2 in the filter box, click the row, and copy the full value from the bottom panel.
- Do the same for SWID. Its value includes the curly braces
{ }; copy them too.
Paste both into the private-league boxes on the home page. If you need them on a phone, email or text them to yourself.
Keeping your ESPN login safe
- Treat
espn_s2andSWIDlike a password. Don't post them in a group chat or a screenshot. - On this site, they're sent to the server for a single request, passed to ESPN to read the league, and never saved or logged. You can choose to remember them in your own browser so updating is one tap; they stay on that device only. Details are in the privacy policy.
- A share link for a private league is only created after ESPN accepts a member's login for that league. Someone who types in your league ID without a working login gets nothing.
Keeping a private league up to date
Finished seasons never change, so they're saved once. The current season needs a member's login to refresh: any member can open the league's link, tap Update this season, and use the bookmark or pasted cookies. Everyone else with the link sees the update. Public leagues refresh on their own.
Why do names show as "First L."?
ESPN sends members' real names only to signed-in members of a private league. To be considerate of people who didn't load the league themselves, this site shows them as first name and last initial. Anyone with the link can rename managers with Managers ✎.
